Medical excellence has
a new home in Fort Smith.
River Valley Musculoskeletal Center (RVMC),
a complete orthopaedic
and neurosurgical care clinic,
recently opened the doors to a new
50,000 square
foot clinic and 22,000 square foot ambulatory
surgery center, located at 3501 W.E. Knight Drive,
just off the corner of 79th street and Phoenix
Avenue. With the opening of this new multispecialty
clinic, the dedicated doctors and their
support staffs
are continuing
a long
tradition of providing the
people of the River Valley
the
best
possible care.
How does an organization
achieve excellence?
River Valley
Musculoskeletal Center's journey to excellence began in 1949
when
Dr. William E. Knight became Fort Smith's first orthopaedic
surgeon
who practiced
at Holt-Krock Clinic. As additional needs
were recognized, services were expanded
to include neurosurgery,
rehabilitation
(physical therapy and occupational therapy),
sports
medicine,
and podiatry.
The additions of Dr. Hoyt Kirkpatrick in 1953, Dr. Alfred B.
Hathcock
in 1955
and Dr. Peter J. Irwin in 1965 helped establish Holt-Krock
Clinic as a leader in musculoskeletal health care. Dr. Kirkpatrick
pioneered Sports Medicine in Western Arkansas and Dr. Hathcock
was one of the first hand surgeons in the area. Dr. Irwin, passionate
about sports medicine, spent many years on the sidelines of Fort
Smith Schools sporting events. The dedication of those doctors
has
enabled River Valley Musculoskeletal Center to complete the circle
of medicine that is required for the health and welfare of our
patients, our clinic, and our community.
